At VJOncology , our aim is to bring expert-led, cutting-edge research to the wider oncologist community, through snapshot summaries of conference presentations and clinical trial results, alongside expert interpretations and opinions. Reflecting on a busy year of congress coverage on The Breast Cancer Channel , three major congresses stood out: American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), and San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS).
ASCO
In June, the VJOncology team traveled to Chicago for another landmark ASCO meeting. As Dr Jason Mouabbi from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center noted in his interview , “ASCO 2025 is big for all three major subtypes of breast cancer.”
Results from SERENA-6, DESTINY-Breast09, and ASCENT-04 provided pivotal new data across the treatment of HR-positive, HER2-negative (HR+/HER2-) BC, HER2-positive (HER2+) BC, and triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) respectively. Take a look at the outcomes of these trials and all the expert interviews from ASCO here .
ESMO
Antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) continued to demonstrate success across BC subtypes and disease stages at ESMO 2025. Positive trial results from DESTINY-Breast05 and DESTINY-Breast11 advanced trastuzumab deruxtecan (T-DXd) into the curative setting for HER2+ BC and other ADCs, sacituzumab govitecan and datopotamab deruxtecan, demonstrated potential in earlier lines of treatment for TNBC.
In a VJOncology first, our ‘Ask the Expert’ sessions at ESMO 2025 saw Dr Stephanie Graff , Brown University Health Cancer Institute and Dr Kevin Kalinsky , Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, answer some of our audience’s most pressing questions. SABCS
The year concluded at SABCS 2025, where global leaders in breast cancer gathered in San Antonio to present major advances across the field. Highlights included promising data in oral selective estrogen receptor degraders (SERDs), a vaccine for TNBC, and evolving immunotherapy combinations, alongside emerging insights into AI-driven risk prediction and the impact of GLP-1-associated weight changes on patient outcomes. Head to our SABCS 2025 page to find all the coverage from this event.
